Ecobank, whose official name is Ecobank Transnational Inc. (ETI), but is also known as Ecobank Transnational, is a pan-African banking conglomerate, with banking operations in 33 African countries. It is the leading independent regional banking group in West Africa and Central Africa, serving wholesale and retail customers.
Ecobank Ghana is a commercial bank in Ghana. It is one of the commercial banks licensed by the Bank of Ghana, the national banking regulator. The bank was formed in 1990. In December 2011, Bank of Ghana, the central bank of the country, which also functions as the national banking regulator, gave approval for Ecobank Transnational to acquire 100% interest in The Trust Bank (TTB), another licensed commercial bank. At the time, the total asset valuation of TTB was approximately US$119 million (GHS:220 million). Ecobank is in the process of merging TTB and EBG. The new bank will be known as Ecobank Ghana.
Requirements
In this instance, the bankrequired a biometric access control system for use in over seventy branches throughout Ghana. Key requirements were ease of use, the ability to remove people very quickly from the system and real time feedback to the security team in the event of a ‘door forced’ event. Efficient installation and prompt support response times were also specified as important prerequisites.
Solution
timeware 2013 biometric access control was trialed at a number of branches to prove that the equipment was both suitable and reliable and to test visisure’s ability to provide a prompt and timely service.
With a network covering all major towns and cities in Ghana, the system needed to be robust enough to survive power-outs and the occasional temperamental communication connections! Training on the system needed to be quick and informative as the number of sites meant that the time available at each location was limited.
Comment
The initial trial sites proved that the timeware biometric access solution was the best on the market with a fingerprint failure rate of less that 0.01%! All installs were completely promptly within the limited time-scales and the system’s real-time feed-back to the security office now means that a door left open in Kumasi will be trigger an on-screen warning in Accra , (160 miles away), within 5 seconds.!
